about Landi Prinsloo
Landi Prinsloo (van Zyl) was born 28 January 1984 in Pretoria. She grew up in a family with medical and academic history (Father and grandfather being Docters / Specialists, and mother a teacher) and as the middle child amongst two brothers. They all went to “Die Poort” primary school – all three of them Dux Scholar’s, with Landi head girl and Victrix Ludorum student. They completed their school journey at “Overkruin” High School, where all of them got full distinctions and stood out academically. She was a model child and excelled in all that she did, although remained the same height and weight throughout her life since the age of 13 years – small and petite at 42kg. With her small structure and very sharp mind, she quickly learned to stand her man by guiding circumstances by her friendliness, of what Is in her mind, comes out of her mouth, her actions and the lasting positive thoughts left with people….that made people wanting to be around her.
Growing up on a smallholding, Landi developed a profound love for nature, particularly in the realm of animal rehabilitation. Her formative years spent amidst the yearly Still Bay holidays, a family tradition spanning 73 years, and numerous deep-sea fishing trips in Sodwana, KZN, with her family further deepened her appreciation for coastal regions and the preservation of natural habitats.
Landi pursued her academic endeavors at the University of Pretoria, where she completed her Food Scientist Honours Degree. Her dedication and excellence in her field were evident as she was recognized as the top student in the country.
Her professional journey began at PVM Nutritional Science, where she spent a remarkable decade, the entirety of her career with one private company. During this time, she led the R&D team, spearheading the development of pioneering products ahead of their time and the first of their kind in the market. Landi was renowned among her peers for her integrity, loyalty, and numerous other positive attributes, earning her a reputation as a truly exceptional individual.
In 2009, Landi Prinsloo married Jann Prinsloo and chose to remain in Pretoria on the smallholding where she had grown up. Together, they shared a deeply special bond, building a structured life filled with exploration, travel, and the creation of cherished traditions and memories that will endure a lifetime. Their journey together overflowed with abundant joy and fulfilment. The blessings of their union expanded with the arrival of three remarkable children, Anso, Lara, and Johann, born between 2014 and 2021. Landi’s unwavering dedication to her children was evident in her undivided attention, meticulous care for detail, and countless hours spent laying the foundation for their education.
Landi’s remarkable qualities, including her sharp intellect, indomitable will, unwavering friendliness, insatiable thirst for knowledge, and deep empathy, left an indelible impression on all who crossed her path. She was a beacon of positivity, known for her willingness to go the extra mile, unwavering loyalty, and genuine kindness. Her fair treatment of everyone she encountered and her ability to connect with others on a profound level underscored her exceptional character and left a lasting legacy of warmth and compassion.

On February 23, 2023, Landi’s unexpected passing left a void in the hearts of those who knew her. For nine years, she grappled with a severe mental health condition known as depression, compounded by the significant influence of post-natal depression. Despite her formidable intellect and scientific background, Landi faced her illness with courage and determination, collaborating closely with her medical and support team throughout her journey.
Throughout her struggle, Landi remained a pillar of strength, choosing to radiate positivity in the presence of others, particularly her beloved children. Despite the weight of her illness, she poured her heart and soul into caring for those around her, steadfastly refusing to let her condition define her interactions or burden those she loved. Her unwavering dedication, boundless love, kindness, and selflessness carried her through the darkest days of her battle.
Landi’s resilience was evident in her ability to rise each day, summoning the willpower to smile and project positivity, even as her mind wrestled with the chemical imbalances of her illness.
In a poignant tribute to Landi’s spirit and legacy, her ashes have been scattered across seven significant locations throughout South Africa, including Kruger National Park, Pretoria, Table Mountain, Kgalagadi, and Still Bay. This symbolic gesture forms a cross over the country, with each site marked by the planting of a tree. These trees serve as living memorials, representing the spread of life, care, and protection, while offering shelter to those in need.
Landi’s presence may have been fleeting, but her impact on our lives remains profound. We cherish countless memories filled with inspiration, kindness, love, and care, as she selflessly prioritized others above herself. Whether tending to a person in need, caring for an animal, watering a tree, or visiting the elderly, Landi’s empathy knew no bounds. Her warm greetings and infectious laughter will forever echo in our memories.
The Landi Prinsloo Foundation is dedicated to upholding her legacy by continuing her work of supporting and contributing to the welfare of people, animals, and the environment. Through our efforts in conservation and environmental stewardship, we strive to honor Landi’s values and perpetuate her spirit of compassion and generosity.
